Sprig & Fern: Tasman Reserve

I am familiar with this legendary lager from times spent in the various Sprig & Fern taverns that are a local staple around Nelson. It has always been a favourite of mine to order at the bar (along with whatever the seasonal drop which is always a great lucky dip) because it does not disappoint.

The final words on the bottle label set the challenge “Try and stop at one. We dare you!”

What I enjoy most about this drop is how versatile it is. It’s a lager but it can also work as a session ale. Don’t like your beers too plain? No problem, this lager blends five hops. Don’t like it too hoppy? All good, those hops are so carefully selected that their taste does not overpower. Don’t like it too heavy? Sorted; despite coming in at 6.5% this is one deceptively smooth drink. As I type this I am just five more sips from finishing my 500ml purchase and I am already sweating over the fact I don’t have another in reserve to follow.

You can find this – and I say it again – most legendary lager, at your local or on tap at any of the Sprig & Fern taverns spreading the good word around the country.
